2011 Mother's Day Contest with Lite 96.3
Our Mom's are very special to us for many reasons! The Spa at The Inn at Bay Harbor and Lite 96.3 are honoring one special Mom with a Spa Day for her and a friend. We received so many heartfelt letters about the Mom's in our community. It was truly inspiring!
Our contest winner is Eleanor who was nominated by her daughter Cynthia Rutherford. Congratulations Eleanor! You have won a 50 minute Swedish massage, 50 minute Couture Facial, Signature Spa Manicure and Pedicure for you and a friend.
Please read Cynthia's story about why her Mom is so special.
"I was fortunate to be a child growing up in the 1950's. It was a bucolic time and not matched, I think, by any other era. My mother was a "war bride" and I was her second born in 1948. My dad was home from the war and they had a wonderful opportunity to build a life unlike the one they had grown up in, which was the depression.
My mother could make anything out of nothing, or nearly so. She always decorated our homes with such good taste and spent next to nothing. My sister and I always had beautiful clothes to wear, sewn by mom and she, herself looked like she walked off the runway, and she made all of her own clothes as well. She never complained about having to do all the work she did, it just happened and she was always happy about her life.
The best thing I learned from my mother was to find someone that made your life better than being alone. She and my father have been married for 66 years and they are fortunate to both still be healthy and happy at age 84.
She continues to create things from nothing and is always working on keeping her mind sharp. The last few years this has resulted in writing, often in rhyme. Having never gone to school beyond high school her stories are quite remarkable. I know that much of my creativity comes from my mother and I love to hear her get excited about my paintings because I know that she would love to be doing what I do, herself.
We all believe our own mother is the best in the worlds, which is as it should be. I continue to be thankful every day that I am a mother of two amazing women, one who is a mother herself, and that my own mother is still with me to share in the joy of her grand daughters and great grand children.
Mom has never been one to "give" herself much in the way of luxury, she always has thought it was too expensive or that she could do it herself. I would love for her to have a day of pampering, she deserves it."
