INNSPIRATION

Your Northern Michigan Spring To-Do List

Put these must-do activities at the top of your list during your visit to northern Michigan this spring! The outdoors is in bloom, and our local wine region is always uncorking something delicious.

Local Wineries & Distilleries

The area surrounding Bay Harbor is becoming more widely recognized for its craft spirits and wine industry. Get a taste of local flavors and craftsmanship by visiting nearby Petoskey Wine Region wineries, like Rudbeckia Winery, Walloon Lake Winery, Mackinaw Trail Winery, or our two local liquor tasting rooms! Multiple venues also offer live music on select days, plus plenty of ways to safely enjoy a flight, cocktail, or brew outdoors or in a private rental space.

Hiking

As the snow is (mostly) melted away, new life is breathed into the region’s abundant natural areas. Take a hike at Petoskey State Park along the beach or their miles of trails, one of the many local nature preserves, or hit the North Country Trail, a national trailway that winds directly through our little corner of Michigan. Take in the fresh spring air and find a souvenir Petoskey stone, watch as forests spring to life, and experience stunning hilltop vistas before the leaves come in as you start exploring off the main roads.

Bird Watching

Bird-lovers, rejoice, because in spring the local and returning birds are active, and the Inn and Cottages are right along the Sunset Coast Birding Trail! With migration reaching its peak in mid to late-April, and heightened activity in May, bird-lovers can flock to the area’s several watching hot spots. Explore the Sunset Coast’s interactive map of sites to find an ideal location to see your favorite species.

Shopping

Before the bustling main tourism season begins, the communities of Charlevoix, Petoskey, Boyne City, and Harbor Springs are still alight with activity in their quaint boutiques, galleries, and shops. Explore our local downtown areas for delightful finds, and pre-season sales.

Golf

Later in the spring, golf season opens here at the resort, in the heart of America’s Summer Golf Capital. Our resort offers two world-class courses with a long list of accolades, including Bay Harbor Golf Club’s recent notable mention on GolfAdvisor’s list of Most Beautiful Courses in the World. Beat the summer crowds and catch some amazing sunrises, sunsets, and the year's warm afternoons along our courses at Crooked Tree Golf Club, or Bay Harbor Golf Club’s Quarry, Preserve, or Links courses.
